We are waiting to hear back about the homestudy and psych eval reviews, but we aren't anticipating that for a little while yet. The stressor right now is coming up with three additional references. We have already supplied 8 of them...5 for our homestudy agency and 3 for Gladney. Now, Honduras is requiring three more! They are character references that need to basically state that we are good people, good parents...basically just a recommendation as to why they think we would be good parents of an adopted child from Honduras. We are a bit stressed about them because we don't know anyone that fits into the three required categories.
You will need to get a notarized reference letter from each of the sources listed below. There will be 3 total reference letters. The letters should all be printed on letterhead and notarized.
1. Government Institution- This letter can be from a local government official such as your congressman, representative, a city council member, etc. If you have children and they are in a public school, the letter can be from a school employee.
2. Community Organization- This letter can come from any group that does community work (ie, boy scouts, food bank, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, YMCA, etc.)
3. Religious- A church staff member will need to write a reference letter stating that you are a member of the church, you are honorable people, and that they recommend you as adoptive parents. The person can be a priest, pastor, Sunday school teacher, etc.
We don't know anyone in the government, and Evan is not in school yet. I have asked if we can use a retired teacher so we'll see what they say about that. I do know of a teacher that I could ask, so I may do that after hearing back. I need to find out if it has to be one of our old teachers or a friend that is one. I don't know of anyone that belongs to a community organization, and I'm not sure my mother's group would count, and we are not members of any church.

Progress!
I should have written my last post a long time ago! The day after I did, a bunch of things happened! Our psych evals are completed and now at Gladney for review. Then it will go back to our Psychologist to make any changes that the agency recommends, and then it will be finalized and submitted as part of our dossier!
Our homestudy agency finally has all the paperwork necessary to finalize our homestudy!! All the references are in, and they've received our state and FBI clearances. Gayle will finish writing our homestudy, her supervisor and consultant will check it for content, then it will go back to MCH for them to check that all information has been written correctly. After this, it will go to Gladney to make sure that all Honduran requirements are included and then it is finalized, signed, notarized....and most importlantly, ready for our dossier!
The other day, I mailed Kate at KBS Dossiers (our Dossier service) a bunch of paperwork...all of our medical forms, state clearances, marriage certificate and my birth certificate. There is finally progress being made again, after having to wait for everyone to do their thing.

Come on people!!
1. Our homestudy has been completed and we were expecting it to be finalized last week, however there has been issue with our homestudy agency not receiving a reference, and we are still waiting for our state clearance results to come back, which is taking longer than expected. So now we wait.
2. We have had our psych evals and our Psychologist said that we would have our reports by the end of the following week. Well, we never got them so I called him to follow up and he said he would email me the reports. Before they can be finalized, it has to go to Gladney for review and at the point, they will be notarized and finalized to be added to our dossier. When I talked to him, I told him there were updated guidelines, so I emailed him a copy of that, a week and a half ago. We still have not received our reports. I emailed him yesterday and am waiting to hear back. So we now wait.
3. Our homestudy agency needs the results for both our FBI prints and state clearance prints before we can move forward with them. The State of Maine and the FBI have received our fingerprinting requests because we have been charged for both, a few weeks ago! We need the prints and the references so that it can be sent to Gladney for review, changes to be made and then back to the caseworker to update. So now we wait.
This is been a frustrating few weeks. We could be further along than we are now if people would do what we are paying them to do.
