More updates.....

I spoke with Beth a few days ago, and the adoption committee DID in fact meet.  That is great news....the most positive news in about 4 months!  There were waitlist numbers given, and a few referrals but none for our agency. The reason for this is that Gladney is one of the newer agencies (there were 3 accredited before Gladney).  She does not know the demographics of the children referred or how many were made. So there are families from those other agencies that have been waiting longer than we have, so it makes sense that they should see movement first.  I am thrilled for those families that did receive wonderful news of waitlist numbers or referrals! My big question now is because Gladney is one of the later agencies, how much longer do we have to wait before we see movement...and this is assuming that the Honduran adoption committee continues to meet regularly.  Apparently, the committee is scheduled to meet once per month, so we are wondering how many referrals can be made in one single day?  I could be wrong, but I can't see that it would be very many.  Basically, as of right now, the committee is going to meet 12 times a year.  The IHNFA director is able to approve dossiers and assign waitlist numbers throughout the month, but it sounds like actual referrals will take place on a monthly basis.

The current director of IHNFA has been quoted as saying that he wants to streamline the adoption process and have it move along more quickly, and we so hope that happens. The article that I read also said that the director wants the committee to meet a few times a week to "catch up" and hopefully that is accurate and happens. These children NEED this to happen.  They all deserve happy, healthy homes.  I look at my own son, who is 25 months old now, and I can't imagine him in an orphanage.  He is funny, loves to dance, loves to learn sign language, run around and laugh and loves his mommy, daddy and his grandparents so much and they love him, and it kills me that so many children don't have this.  All children deserve to know what having a family is like.

Hopefully soon, we will receive some information or updates on our dossier, which is at IHNFA. We haven't heard anything since November so learning of some official movement for us personally would be fantastic.

  1. My fingers are crossed that you hear something soon. The waiting is so hard. I continue to try to get my dossier to my new country.
